The Passerine Post is a project started by Koda Passero, a native Bostonian transplant to Seattle with aspirations of becoming a science reporter. Currently a student at North Seattle College, it is his goal to begin writing stories from on campus, displaying the vibrant community of the college student body and highlighting the way small stories can have lasting effects on people.
Before enrolling at North Seattle, Koda was a graduate from Gloucester Biotechnology Academy, and was hired to work as a lab technician for several Harvard PhD graduates on work relating to protein production in native gut bacteria. This work – taking place in the throes of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020-21 – highlighted how important being able to communicate the purpose and veracity of scientific advancement is. It is his goal to eventually report on studies that are being conducted from all different fields, including not only his own past in microbiology and bioengineering, but also environmental science, medical advancements, and epidemiology.
